Northwoods Veterans Homestead 2nd Annual Pig Roast Review
December 2023 Newsletter is here! This year’s event was a complete success from beginning to end. The Northwoods Honor Guard kicked off the pig roast with a 21-gun salute! Reverend Will MacKay blessed the meal and evening activities. A huge thanks to Dusty Warner from Sheldon for the delicious double roasted pigs, enduring a challenging journey to Rhinelander with his grill on rims. Comfort Inn generously provided a two-night stay for Dusty. Lynn’s Catering not only cooked all the sides but also donated the hall for NVH to host the event. Trig’s contributed $400 worth of desserts to cap off the fantastic meal.
Peter Carlson, an NVH board member, built a scale model of the home as an example for our tiny homes community. Despite his often unnoticed efforts, we deeply appreciate his significant contributions to NVH.
Wolfman and his wife provided musical entertainment, and many attending veterans sang patriotic songs for the crowd. Guests enjoyed games like Punch-a-Cup and Plinko, with cash prizes and 50/50 drawings. A meat raffle and Basket Raffle, featuring donations from businesses and individuals in the Northwoods, added excitement. Drawing numbers for the Basket Raffle began around 9 p.m., and everyone had a great time, especially the winners!
A special thanks to all the volunteers for their hard work and dedication in making this event the success that it was – you rock! Eric Britton captured moments of the Pig Roast night through donated photography services, not only for this evening but for future events.
