Monthly Q & A about NVH for our future partners:
At Northwoods Veterans Homestead, we understand that many of you have questions about our initiatives and our mission. Therefore, we aim to address your queries and provide updates through a short article in each monthly newsletter. Before delving into our upcoming plans, let’s begin with a brief overview.
WHO IS NVH?
Our dedicated board comprises five veterans, an attorney, a Veterans Service Officer, two former Marines (one of whom is a co-founder and President of the board), and a versatile General Contractor. On the civilian front, we have three retired businesswomen and a working businesswoman with expertise in grant writing.
WHY DO WE NEED NVH?
When conceptualizing a tiny home village for homeless veterans, we chose not to reinvent the wheel. Instead, we modeled ourselves after ‘VOW,’ a homeless Veteran tiny home in Racine, WI. Planning commenced in late 2019, but due to the onset of COVID-19, we faced significant disruptions. It wasn’t until the spring of 2022 that we were able to tour the Racine facility and gain insights into their philosophy for our tiny home village.
WHAT HAS BEEN DONE SO FAR?
We have received overwhelming support from Wisconsin and beyond, enabling us to acquire land and initiate fundraising efforts for our Community Center.
NEXT MONTH’S TOPIC:
Our fundamental philosophy for the residents of our tiny home community.
