Exciting News!

NVH is planning land clearing on our property just east of Rhinelander later this month or in April. Ponsse, N.A. volunteered their time and equipment to complete the job! Timing on the project is dependent upon their schedule. This is an exciting step forward for NVH so all the local news media will be invited to attend. Be sure to like our Facebook page, Northwoods Veterans Homestead and WATCH for upcoming information for the LAND CLEARING DATE as we will be going LIVE!

Monthly Q & A about NVH for our future partners:

NVH Basic philosophy for our tiny home residents.

Upon requesting to become a Northwoods Veterans Homestead resident, each individual with be asked to sign a contract.

The contract will state the resident must be clean and sober, and must maintain sobriety for the duration of their stay at NVH. Failure to do so will result in the resident’s immediate removal from the program. If they can prove their sobriety after 30 days of being gone from NVH, they will be reinstalled for a 2nd (final) chance to work the program.

In the contract, the Veteran will see that there is no cost to the them while living at NVH, but they will be expected to pay their way by accomplishing weekly chores at the homestead i.e.; cooking meals for the group, cleaning the community center, doing grounds maintenance, working in the garden, etc. This will give them a sense of community, pride of ownership, responsibility etc., and the feeling of paying their own way in the world instead of expecting a handout.

Next month: Our basic philosophy for our tiny home residents continued.

Northwoods Rumble Tournament Fundraiser

This past weekend NVH had a booth at the Northwoods Rumble Tournament Fundraiser which was hosted by Women’s Premier Fastpitch and Wisconsin Outlawz in the Hodag Dome. This wonderful group has donated all event proceeds to NVH! There were cash donations and items for Easter basket raffles received from spectators. Quite a few really good relationships have been forged. We did our very first Facebook Live which was definitely a success! We had a very nice conversation with Terry Wagner (who is the President of tournament) and he is very excited to work more with us in the future.

Up North Community Expo Thursday, March 7th, 11am-5pm

NVH will have a booth at this year’s Up North Expo in the Hodag Dome, please come out and see us!! There will be over 80 vendors from 7 counties with displays! 33 Vendors with hiring information.  There will be free raffles and grab bags (while supplies last)! This is a wonderful event to attend, last year’s expo was amazing. We made so many great contacts and lifelong relationships!

Please plan on attending, it is worth your time and effort!

VA’s Homeless Veteran’s Outreach

The following article is why Northwoods Veterans Homestead is working hard to provide homes and facilitate services for homeless Veterans. Please read on.

Local VA housed more than 60 homeless Veterans last year. In the February 7, 2024 edition of the Northwoods Star Journal the article reports that “As part of the VA’s nationwide homeless goals for 2023, the Oscar G Johnson VA Medical Center in Iron Mountain, MI had permanently housed 60 homeless Veterans, meeting and exceeding their local goal by more than 52% in upper Michigan and northern Wisconsin.”

“These placements along with placements provided by other VA healthcare systems across America led to the VA housing 46,552 Veterans nationwide.”

Ending Veteran homelessness is a top priority for the VA our current government administration and the many 501(c)3 organizations across the country which includes NVH.
