April 2024 Newsletter

Our April 2024 newsletter is here. This month we have our monthly Q&A, event updates, and additional state-wide news regarding additional support for veterans and their families.

Monthly Q&A

Upon entering the Northwoods Veterans Homestead program, the veteran will be asked what goals they would like to strive for and accomplish while at NVH.

Do they have health needs (mental and/or physical) that need to be addressed? Do they want to gain their high school diploma or get further education? Do they need assistance learning to save money, balance a checkbook, make a budget, and stick to it? Do they need to learn how to cook for themselves, care for a home, or hunt for a job?

The list goes on and on because each individual will have different needs and challenges making their way back into society. That’s where our case managers will come in, giving guidance and assistance with the veteran’s needs along their journey to self-sufficiency.

The veterans will be allowed to stay at the homestead until they meet their goals of attaining a job, housing, and the ability to become a productive member of society again.

Our research shows that most veterans will “graduate” from the program within 12 to 18 months. The data shows that the success rate is around 90%. We hope that once on their own, they will return to help others along to success.

We at Northwoods Veterans Homestead know that we owe our veterans this chance, as our small repayment for all the sacrifices they have made for our freedoms. If you agree with our mission, share our message with your friends and families.

Event Updates

Up North Community Expo recap

Thanks to all who stopped by to support us at the Up North Community Expo, which was held on Thursday, March 7th, at the Rhinelander Hodag Dome.

We met so many wonderful people who knew about Northwoods Veterans Homestead’s mission and are supporters of our cause. Everyone was eager to view the video rendering of the NVH Community Center building created by architect Jeff Musson, and also the scale model of a tiny home built by Peter Carlson, an NVH Board Member. The overall consensus was approval for both projects.

And for those who didn’t know about NVH but stopped by anyway and asked excellent questions, we are proud to gain you all as supporters too.

We appreciate you all!
